Africa Shines as DR Congo Return After 52-Year Wait
African football has enjoyed a landmark 2026 World Cup, with ten teams from the continent reaching the expanded tournament.
The group included Senegal, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Cape Verde, Ghana, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and South Africa, with DR Congo completing the list by returning to the World Cup for the first time since 1974 — a 52-year wait.
As many as eight African nations were in contention to reach the knockout stages, a record-setting presence at the game's biggest event.
From Cape Verde's heroics to Egypt's historic first win, the continent has made its mark.
