DA Leader Requests Removal of John Steenhuisen From Cabinet

Geordin Hill-Lewis, the federal leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA), has formally requested that President Cyril Ramaphosa remove John Steenhuisen from his position as the minister of agriculture. This request is part of a larger proposed reshuffle of the party's representation within the South African cabinet.
The proposed changes would see Willie Aucamp take over the agriculture portfolio. According to reports, Aucamp would be moved into this role from his current position overseeing the environment portfolio.
The move comes after a period of leadership transition within the DA. Geordin Hill-Lewis took over the leadership of the party in April, succeeding Steenhuisen, who had served as the leader of the DA for seven years.
Some reports suggest that the push to strip Steenhuisen of his cabinet post follows a "bungle" regarding foot and mouth disease. This specific issue is cited as a contributing factor in the decision to seek the reshuffle.
The proposed shift in leadership has raised concerns regarding the potential capture of rural policy and wildlife management in South Africa. The reshuffle is viewed by some as a significant shift in power within the party's executive structure.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has been approached with these requests for a massive shake-up of the DA's executive positions. The final outcome of these requests depends on the President's decision regarding the cabinet appointments.
