DSW worker seriously injured after being dragged by truck in Verulam CBD

RUSA paramedics assist a 34-year-old Durban Solid Waste employee who sustained serious injuries after reportedly being dragged by a truck in Verulam CBD on Monday.

A 34-year-old Durban Solid Waste (DSW) employee sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital after her clothing reportedly caught on a metal lever attached to a truck in Verulam.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said its officers were informed that two female municipal employees had finished their duties and were walking along the pavement towards the taxi rank when the incident occurred at the intersection of Todd and Ireland streets.

According to RUSA, the injured woman’s colleague reported that a metal lever protruding from the side of a white Isuzu truck caught onto the woman’s trousers, dragging her as the vehicle continued moving.

The truck driver, aged 33, reportedly told officers that he had turned into Todd Street from the R102 and was travelling to Wick Street to deliver a fridge freezer.

“He reportedly noticed the woman beneath the truck when he checked his rear-view mirror near the traffic lights. He was initially unaware of what had happened,” RUSA said.

RUSA paramedics stabilised the woman at the scene before transporting her to hospital for treatment for serious injuries to her right hand and left wristt.
