Chatsworth matric pupils described the English Paper 1 comprehension section as relatable, while others highlighted the language and cartoon-based questions.
The question on guilty pleasures and temptation stood out for most pupils.
Valincia Govender, a matric pupil from Brinhaven Secondary in Montford, Chatsworth said the paper was ‘nice and enjoyable’.
“The comprehension was easy and I could relate to. The topic was on guilty pleasures and temptation. I had a lot to write on this. I also enjoyed a question in the language section testing our editing skills,” said Govender.
She hopes to pursue a career in computer science or Information Technology.
Govender said she liked to challenge herself, and computer science appealed to her.
Sameeha Kathrayan found the paper ‘good’.
“The comprehension and language were easy. I thought the comprehension will be time consuming but the questions were easy to answer,” she said.
Kathrayan who usually achieves A or B symbols wants to pursue a teaching degree.
“I have always been passionate about teaching. I always assist my younger sister, Lailab who is in Grade 4, with her school work,” she added.
Minenhle Langley said she preferred the language section, especially the questions based on a cartoon.
“I did not manage my time well for the comprehension section. I generally achieve B symbols in English. I have high expectations for English,” said Langley.
Nursing and social work are two career options Langley is exploring. She said she is also considering journalism.
Sameeha Sheik said the paper was fair and the comprehension section was relatable.
“The comprehension section enabled reflection; therefore, it was enjoyable. We were tested on similar questions throughout the year,” said Sheik.
She expressed an interest in a career within the business sector because of better financial opportunities.
Sheik said her matric year presented a huge work load.
The National Senior Certificate Examination continues tomorrow with Geography.
