Four killed in head-on collision on R541 between Lochiel and Badplaas
The crash claimed the lives of three men and a woman.
Four people were killed in a head-on collision between two light motor vehicles on the R541 between Lochiel and Badplaas in Mpumalanga on Sunday.
The crash, which claimed the lives of three men and a woman, occurred on November 8. Both drivers were among those killed, with all four victims dying at the scene.
A female passenger was critically injured in the collision and is receiving medical treatment at Embuleni Hospital.
The cause of the crash has not yet been established, and an investigation is underway.
Three men and a woman died in the crash.
The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison said reckless and negligent driving could not be ruled out at this stage.
Provincial MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison Jackie Macie has extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured passenger a speedy recovery.
Macie also urged motorists to exercise caution and take responsibility for their conduct on the roads.
“Motorists must choose to be responsible by driving in such a way that they make their lives and those of other road users a priority. They must obey the rules and also adjust their driving in line with prevailing conditions, which include rain and construction on the road,” he said.
The MEC also called on motorists returning home after the week of Local Government Elections to be particularly cautious.
The department said motorists should remain mindful of conditions on the roads as they travel.
