IEC to launch election results hub in Midrand

The Electoral Commission of South Africa is set to launch the National Results Operations Centre (ROC) in Midrand on Wednesday.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) will launch its national Results Operation Centre (ROC) at the Gallagher Convention Centre on Wednesday.

This is where the 2026 local government elections will be held on November 4.

The centre will also allow political parties to monitor their performance through live updates, while large screens display voter turnout and election statistics.

The system is intended to promote transparency by giving parties access to election information and an opportunity to raise formal objections through established procedures.

The launch comes after a technical glitch during the 2024 general election caused the leaderboard at the national results centre to go blank for about two hours.

This raised concerns among political parties about the reliability of the results display system.

The incident angered some political parties, including MK Party, leading to the party accusing the commission of vote rigging.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Court has since dismissed the party’s application challenging the election results.
