Man shot in alleged hit after gunmen open fire on BMW on N2
The man's vehicle was riddled with bullets.
A man was seriously wounded after three men allegedly opened fire on his BMW in a suspected hit near the KwaMashu off-ramp on the N2.
Gareth Naidoo, spokesperson for KZN VIP Emergency Services, said the man was travelling in a red BMW when a white vehicle allegedly stopped ahead of his car.
He said three men allegedly exited the vehicle and opened fire on the BMW.
“KZN VIP advanced life support paramedics treated and stabilised the seriously injured patient before urgently transporting him to a nearby medical facility for further care.
“The motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unconfirmed and are subject to SAPS investigation.
Members of RTI were deployed to control traffic.
Ndabezinhle Sibiya, spokesperson for the KZN Department of Transport, said members of the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) were deployed to the scene to manage the traffic flow.
“A deadly assassination attempt disrupted the traffic flow along the N2, Southbound lane, 3km before the KwaMashu off-ramp.
“To ensure the free flow of traffic, our Umdloti RTI team responded swiftly to a shooting incident. According to a report from the RTI team, the driver of a red BMW has been taken to the hospital after a deadly assassination attempt that left him seriously injured.
“The South African Police Service have taken over the crime scene with RTI redirecting the traffic. We request motorists to exercise extra caution.”
He said the southbound carriageway has been affected with three lanes closed and traffic only allowed to use the shoulder lane.
