Ramaphosa urges traditional leaders to calm tensions before protest

President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged South Africa’s Traditional Kings and Queens to use the trust and moral authority they command to speak out against intolerance and instability.
The President was addressing the monarchs at a meeting ahead of next week’s planned 30 June protests against undocumented foreign nationals.
Ramaphosa said the traditional leaders can use their standing to calm tensions, resolve disputes through dialogue and prevent communities from being mobilised for violence and disorder.
He says they can remind the people of the spirit of Ubuntu.
The President has expressed the hope that the traditional leaders, together with government can continue to work to address issues of immigration.
