Dr. Miguel Reina Ortiz recently traveled to East Africa to strengthen existing partnerships and explore new avenues for collaboration in global health.
Chandy JohnIn Uganda, he joined Dr. Chandy John to engage with several of his long-standing collaborators and expand connections with his team and local researchers. Over the course of the visit, Reina Ortiz met with more than 10 colleagues representing a range of institutions and disciplines. These discussions were highly productive, resulting in the identification of several promising areas for collaboration that are now actively being explored.
Building on this momentum, Reina Ortiz traveled to Kenya with two primary objectives. Firstly to meet with key partners to continue advancing plans for our upcoming Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Global Health Leadership program residency, scheduled to take place in Kenya from May 27 through June 3. These planning sessions were critical to ensuring continued planning of meaningful and impactful residency experiences.
Secondly, Reina Ortiz connected with local researchers to explore additional collaborative opportunities, both in Nairobi and Eldoret (western Kenya). These conversations have already begun to generate new ideas and partnerships.
These visits underscore the Department of Community and Global Health’s ongoing commitment to global engagement and capacity building. By fostering strong international collaborations and advancing initiatives such as the DrPH residency, we aim to further position our Global Health Leadership program as a hub for impactful, practice-oriented training and research. Dr. Reina Ortiz is thankful both to the department and Dr. John.
