Rocklands on edge after two men gunned down in suspected gang hit
Residents in Rocklands, Mitchells Plain, fear a wave of gang retaliation after two men with alleged gang links were gunned down in a hail of bullets on Tuesday night.
The victims, aged 33 and 37, were shot dead just before 9pm at the corner of Weltevreden Road and Robin Street. Police say two unidentified suspects were dropped off by a silver BMW, walked up to the men and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Frederick van Wyk confirmed that two murder cases are being investigated. The suspects remain at large and no arrests have been made.
“Mitchells Plain SAPS members responded to a complaint of a shooting incident at approximately 8.53pm on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, at the corner of Weltevreden Road and Robin Street, Rocklands, Mitchells Plain.”
“Upon arrival on the scene, members found the bodies of two adult males, aged 33 and 37, with multiple gunshot wounds. Both victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.
“According to preliminary reports, two unidentified suspects were dropped off by a silver BMW. The suspects allegedly approached the victims and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
“Mitchells Plain police have registered two counts of murder for investigation. The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related; however, this forms part of the ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made.”
According to a crime activist and member of the Community Police Forum, who wants to protect their identity out of fear for their safety.
“I do not know the exact circumstances surrounding this shooting incident but it is gang related. The situation in the area is very tense and now with this shooting, it is going to cause a gang retaliation.
“They were first School Boys and then they were Fancy Boys and unfortunately this is the outcome. The shooting took place at around 8.35pm on the corner of Weltevreden Road and Robin Road in Rocklands. About 23 shots were fired.
‘We had all our forces on the scene such as Law Enforcement officers, Metro Police and SAPS.”
