SASSA adjusts payment schedule for November 2026 grants ahead of elections
Millions of South Africans who rely on social grants will receive their payments earlier than usual in November, following a decision by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) to adjust its payment schedule ahead of the Local Government Elections on November 4.
Millions of South Africans who rely on social grants will be relieved to know that the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced an adjustment to its payment schedule for November 2026. This decision comes as part of the agency's preparations for the Local Government Elections scheduled for November 4.
The revised payment dates were strategically selected to ensure that older persons, disability, and children's grant beneficiaries receive their funds in a timely manner.
SASSA confirmed in a recent statement that the changes follow consultations with various stakeholders and are backed by approval from the National Treasury.
Under the updated timeline, older persons will receive their grants on Friday, October 30, giving them an essential buffer before the elections.
Disability grant beneficiaries will follow with payments on Monday, November 2, while children's grants are scheduled for disbursement on Tuesday, November 3. Beneficiaries whose grants are currently under review have a separate payment date set for Thursday, November 5.
SASSA emphasised that these adjustments are aimed at ensuring a seamless administration of payments around the election period. "The agency remains committed to ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive their grants in an orderly and reliable manner," the statement read. The agency is also urging beneficiaries whose grants are under review to respond promptly to official communications and attend any necessary review appointments as requested.
Additionally, SASSA has cautioned beneficiaries against visiting its offices unless necessary, noting that it will process payments according to this revised schedule.
In light of this important period, beneficiaries are encouraged to utilise the agency's official communication channels for accurate information, remaining mindful of potential misinformation circulating about social grants.
