Singapore Airlines unveils new long-haul cabins in S$2bn passenger experience upgrade

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has unveiled a new generation of long-haul cabin products as part of a more than S$2 billion investment aimed at improving passenger comfort, privacy and the overall in-flight experience.

The redesigned cabins will cover all four travel classes – First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy Class and Economy Class – with a focus on giving passengers greater flexibility and control over how they spend their time on board.

The new products will be progressively introduced from the second half of 2027 across 41 retrofitted Airbus A350-900 long-haul and A350-900 ultra-long-range (ULR) aircraft, as well as Singapore Airlines' incoming Boeing 777-9 fleet.

The investment forms part of the airline's broader effort to elevate the passenger experience from the beginning to the end of a journey.

According to SIA, the new cabin designs respond to changing traveller expectations, with greater emphasis on privacy, comfort, intuitive functionality and connectivity.

Singapore Airlines has unveiled a new generation of long-haul cabin products as part of a more than S$2 billion investment aimed at improving passenger comfort, privacy and the overall in-flight experience.

The upcoming Boeing 777-9 aircraft will feature the new First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class products.

Meanwhile, the 41 Airbus A350-900 long-haul and A350-900ULR aircraft undergoing retrofits will receive the new Business Class seats.

The A350-900ULR fleet will also introduce First Class cabins for the first time, expanding the airline's premium long-haul offering.

The designs have been developed around the different ways passengers use their time in the air, whether working, dining, relaxing or sleeping.

Lee Lik Hsin, Singapore Airlines' Chief Commercial Officer, said the airline wanted to create a more comfortable and rewarding experience across all cabin classes.

"While each cabin has been designed individually, they are united by the same ambition to make the experience more comfortable, flexible, and rewarding for our customers," he said.

The new cabin products follow extensive research involving more than 5,000 frequent travellers, customers, airline employees and industry experts from around the world.

Through focus groups, interviews, surveys and concept testing, the airline explored how passengers work, dine, relax, sleep and spend their time during long-haul flights.

The research highlighted increasing demand for greater personal space, privacy, flexibility and more intuitive features that cater to individual passenger preferences.

Singapore Airlines worked with several international design firms to translate these findings into its new cabin concepts.

PriestmanGoode led the First Class design, Designworks worked on Business Class, while Factorydesign was responsible for Premium Economy and Economy Class.

The airline also collaborated with aircraft seat manufacturers Collins Aerospace, which is producing the new First Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class seats, and RECARO Aircraft Seating, which is responsible for the new Business Class seats.

The new cabins are expected to mark a significant upgrade to Singapore Airlines' long-haul offering when they begin entering service from the second half of 2027.
