Spain Recover From Cape Verde Scare to Win Group
Spain have won their group at the 2026 World Cup, recovering from an early scare against tournament debutants Cape Verde.
The European champions were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Cape Verde in their opener, firing in 27 shots without reward. They responded in style, thrashing Saudi Arabia 4-0 before edging Uruguay 1-0 to seal top spot.
The wobble against Cape Verde aside, Spain regained their authority to advance as group winners.
They now head into the knockout rounds as one of the sides to watch.
