  • A third person has been arrested after armed police responded to an incident in which a car was hit by gunshots.

South Wales Police said a vehicle on the A48 in Morriston, Swansea, sustained damage "consistent with a firearms discharge" on Friday and one person was left with minor injuries.

A 41-year-old man, from Llansamlet, and a 16-year-old boy, also from Llansamlet, were arrested in the aftermath on Friday and remain in custody.

On Saturday police said a 29-year-old man from Swansea had also now been arrested on suspicion of affray and possessing an offensive weapon.

Police continue to investigate and are appealing for witnesses and anyone with footage of the incident to come forward.

Ch Supt Stephen Jones, of South Wales Police, said the force believed that the "individuals involved are likely to be known to one another."

"Incidents such as this are rare but we appreciate they cause significant concern within local communities," he said.

The force said it was not currently aware of any wider threat to the public.

Jones said: "A visible policing presence will remain in the area as officers continue their enquiries and provide reassurance to local residents.

"I would like to urge anyone who does have information to make contact."

South Wales Police said it was also aware of rumours and speculation circulating on social media in relation to this incident, and asks the public not to share unverified information.

Residents were told to avoid the area and events, including a local firework display due to take place on Friday, were cancelled.

Video circulating online shows police officers next to a stationary car that appeared to have been struck by a shotgun blast on Clase Road near an Asda superstore.

A National Police Air Service helicopter was circling the area but has since returned to base.

South Wales Police said all road closures put in place following the incident had been lifted.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has information or footage that could assist the investigation, is asked to contact South Wales Police via its major incident public portal.
