Three arrested over Cleveland massacre that left 13 dead

<p>Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the mass shooting at Jumpers Informal Settlement in Cleveland, east of Johannesburg, that left 13 people dead. </p>
<p>The mass shooting that took place on June 9 left 14 people injured. </p>
<p>The suspects, aged 26, 32, and 36, were arrested on Tuesday following an intensive investigation into the attack, police said.</p>
<p>Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni had mobilised additional resources to investigate the case and track down those responsible for what police described as a "barbaric act".</p>
<p>She said the arrests were made on Tuesday after the provincial commissioner intensified efforts to ensure those behind the shooting were brought to justice.</p>
<p>The breakthrough followed a coordinated operation involving the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit, Provincial Tracking Team, Tactical Response Team (TRT) in Krugersdorp, Johannesburg Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), National Intervention Unit (NIU), and the <a href="https://iol.co.za/tags/military/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">South African National Defence Force</a> (SANDF).</p>
<p>According to police, intelligence gathering led officers to KwaMaiMai Informal Settlement, where three Lesotho nationals were arrested.</p>
<p>''One of the suspects was found in possession of more than 100 rounds of 9mm live ammunition,'' said Nevhuhlwi. </p>
<p>Mthombeni welcomed the arrests and commended the investigation team for what he described as their dedication since the shooting.</p>
