Toney nightclub assault trial set for June 2028

England striker Ivan Toney will face trial in 2028 over the alleged assault of a man at a central London nightclub.
The 30-year-old footballer, from Northampton, previously pleaded not guilty to attacking Saber Da Silva at a nightclub in Wardour Street, Soho, on 6 December 2025.
He formally entered this plea at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday, where a provisional trial date was set for the same court of 12 June 2028.
Judge Christopher Hehir told the defendant he was "sorry" about the delay, adding: "As you may know, the crown courts are operating under a great deal of pressure. We have got a massive backlog of work for various reasons."
Toney is accused of headbutting and punching Da Silva during a confrontation at the 100 Wardour Street club.
The criminal case came after a Metropolitan Police investigation and the charge was announced in July.
Toney, who represented England at this summer's World Cup, was released on unconditional bail after the hearing on Thursday.
His provisional trial date of 12 June 2028 falls during the group stages of the men's European Championship, which is being jointly hosted by England, Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
