U.S. Forces Strike Iranian Targets in Strait of Hormuz

The United States military initiated a significant retaliatory operation against Iranian assets within the Strait of Hormuz. This action, which involved both air and naval forces, took place between July 7 and July 8, 2026.

According to information released by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation targeted more than 80 distinct locations. These targets included various components of Iran's military infrastructure.

Among the specific targets identified were air defense systems, which are crucial for protecting Iranian airspace. Command-and-control networks, essential for coordinating military operations, were also struck.

Coastal radar sites, which play a role in monitoring maritime traffic and detecting potential threats, were additionally impacted during the operation. Furthermore, the U.S. forces targeted over 60 vessels linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

This extensive military response by the U.S. followed a series of incidents involving Iranian forces. On July 6 and July 7, three commercial merchant vessels that were navigating through the Strait of Hormuz experienced attacks. The U.S. operation was a direct retaliation for these earlier actions against commercial shipping.
