Weir 25th in Ballon d'Or and joins Olid & Cuthbert in award shortlist

Caroline Weir has been ranked the 25th best women footballer in the world on the day she also joined fellow Scotland midfielder Erin Cuthbert and Manchester United head coach Eva Olid on the shortlist for the Scottish Women's Football Awards 2026.
It was the second year in a row that 31-year-old Weir, who left Real Madrid for Lyon this summer, has been a Ballon d'Or nominee having been ranked 30th 12 months ago.
She also joins Chelsea's Cuthbert, Brann winger Lauren Davidson and striker Kathleen McGovern, who switched from Hibernian to Newcastle United, on the shortlist for Scotland international player of the year.
Glasgow City's Nicole Kozlova, who was named PFA Scotland player of the season in May, is also in the running for the SWPL 1 player of the year award.
The Ukraine international is up against three other strikers - Celtic's Saoirse Noonan, Rangers' Katie Wilkinson, and Georgia Timms, who left Heart of Midlothian for Ipswich Town this summer.
Olid led Hearts to their first Scottish Women's Premier League title last season before moving to England's Women's Super League.
The Spaniard has already been named PFA Scotland manager of the season and could make it a double as she is in the running to be SWPL coach of the year.
Olid is up against Leanne Crichton, whose Rangers side finished runners-up and currently lead the 2026-27 table, Hibernian's Joelle Murray, and Jack Beesley, who led Spartans back to the top flight.
The winners will be announced at Hampden Park on 28 November.
