World Cup Knockouts Begin as South Africa Face Canada in Round of 32
The 2026 World Cup is reaching its knockout phase, with the group stage concluding and the round of 32 set to begin.
The first knockout match pits South Africa, runners-up in their group, against co-hosts Canada, runners-up in theirs, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood on June 28. The wider round of 32 gets under way as the expanded tournament moves into its decisive stage.
The final group matches were still being played, with fixtures including Jordan against Argentina in Dallas and Algeria against Austria in Kansas City completing the picture before the bracket is finalised.
With more teams than ever competing in the first 48-nation World Cup, the knockout rounds promise a packed schedule and plenty of fresh storylines as the field is whittled down on the road to the final.
