Family seeks answers after Carlton Naidu’s murder in Phoenix
Police are investigating the murder of 27-year-old Carlton Naidu in Brookdale, Phoenix.
His family allege witnesses saw him being chased before he was attacked.
Naidu’s body was found with multiple stab wounds on Strandbrook Road at about 3.45pm on Wednesday.
It is believed he was seated on the steps of a tuckshop on Cardham Road, eating chips, when he was attacked by three men.
Carlton’s uncle, Shaldon Naidoo said: “Witnesses told us that Carlton was seen running away from some men who had chased him on Cardham Road. He was beaten up and stabbed.
“When I arrived at Strandbrook Road at about 4.10pm, I saw Carlton’s body lying between the pavement and road. The police and family members were at the scene.
“He was stabbed seven times straight through the heart. He had cuts on his back. I think he tried to defend himself because he was also stabbed on his arm. He had a gash on his temple as if he was hit with a brick.
“It was a brutal attack and seemed like someone wanted to silence him. Whoever did this wanted to deliberately end his life,’ said Naidoo.
He said Carlton was well known in the neighbourhood.
“Carlton was not working so he was often see at the tuckshop asking people for odd jobs. He wanted to be free and not tied down to one job. He would also ask people to spare him some money to buy something from the shop,” said Naidoo.
Naidoo said his sister Desreen Naidu was heartbroken by her eldest son’s death.
He added that police informed him of an imminent arrest.
SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza confirmed police were investigating a case of murder.
