Infinity Power signs nearly 2GW of solar deals in South Africa and Egypt
Egypt-based renewable energy firm Infinity Power has signed three agreements to advance nearly 2 gigawatts of solar projects across South Africa and Egypt, announced at the Africa Energy Forum in Cape Town.
In South Africa, the company signed engineering and construction agreements for around 774 megawatts of solar capacity. They include a conditional contract awarded to Sterling and Wilson for the 285.6-megawatt Highveld Solar project, and a letter of award to PowerChina Guizhou Engineering for the 488-megawatt Ngwedi Cluster projects.
In Egypt, Infinity Power formalised a letter of award with AIKO Energy for the supply of solar modules for the Nefer project in Minya, a 1.2-gigawatt-peak development.
The company said the agreements were a step toward its target of reaching 10 gigawatts of operational renewable capacity across Africa by 2032. Over the previous two years it had added more than 2.5 gigawatts of solar, 200 megawatts of wind and significant battery storage to its pipeline across Egypt, South Africa and Côte d'Ivoire.
The deals reflect accelerating investment in African renewables, as governments and developers race to expand generation, ease chronic power shortages and meet rising demand with cleaner, lower-cost energy.
