Egypt signs healthcare deals at Africa Health ExCon in Cairo
Egypt has signed three strategic healthcare and pharmaceutical agreements at the fifth edition of Africa Health ExCon in Cairo, as the country positions itself as a hub for the continent's health sector.
The event, held from June 15 to 18 under the theme "Health Sovereignty in Africa: Leadership, Resilience, and Self-Reliance," was organised in cooperation with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly witnessed the signing of the memoranda of understanding.
One agreement was signed between the Egyptian Drug Authority and Algeria's national pharmaceutical products agency to deepen cooperation on pharmaceuticals and medical supplies. A second designates Egypt as host of the operational headquarters of the African Pooled Procurement Mechanism, signed between Egypt's Unified Procurement Authority and the Africa CDC.
A third deal saw Orange Egypt partner with a healthcare technology provider to strengthen digital health services and support the modernisation of the country's health system.
Officials said the agreements reflected Egypt's push to advance African integration and strengthen healthcare and pharmaceutical systems across the continent. The summit has grown into one of Africa's largest gatherings for the health and medical industries.
