The State Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Sankara, made the remarks while briefing journalists during the flag-off of the distribution exercise on Friday.

He described the federal intervention as a clear testament to President Tinubu’s compassion for the people of Jigawa State and Nigerians at large, noting that it reflects the administration’s steadfast commitment to citizen welfare.

Mr Sankara recalled that when the disaster struck, the state government, acting through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), responded promptly by distributing emergency relief items within days.

According to him, the state government’s initial support reached hundreds of households and included more than 11,000 bags (10kg and 25kg) of rice, beans, and maize, along with cash assistance and other essential provisions.

“We also distributed agricultural inputs, particularly improved seed varieties, to enable farmers to replant, secure an extra harvest, and reinforce local food security,” the commissioner said.

Sankara noted that the Federal Government’s Special Intervention on Post-2025 Flood Disaster Relief Assistance was designed to cushion the lingering socio-economic impact of the disaster on vulnerable communities.

He explained that President Tinubu directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to supply additional food and non-food items, alongside livelihood-support equipment.

“The items distributed to approximately 700 beneficiary households included 500 bags of rice (25kg), 250 cartons of spaghetti (500g × 20), 250 cartons of vegetable oil (5L × 4), 500 foam mattresses, 250 nylon mats, and 250 blankets,” Mr Sankara detailed.

“For economic recovery, beneficiaries also received 54 water pumping machines, 48 grinding machines, 40 sewing machines, and 10 cargo tricycles.”

He added that NEMA officials conducted the exercise in collaboration with SEMA, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, anti-graft agencies (EFCC and ICPC), and security agencies, including the SSS, Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and NSCDC.
