Police in Mpumalanga are investigating a case of murder following the fatal shooting of a 57-year-old man outside a voting station in Bushbuckridge.

The incident happened at Boikhutso Trust near Dwarsloop in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Provincial police spokesperson Donald Mdhluli says the incident occurred while the counting of ballots was taking place inside the station. “People that were outside that voting station opened their radios from their vehicles and during that noisy moment. Then a male suspect that came and fired several shots which resulted in this man sustaining some injuries and was taken to hospital and then passed away. So we haven’t arrested anyone yet but the investigation is ongoing and the motive for shooting and killing is unknown at this stage.”
