  • A man has died after falling into the sea following a crash involving his motorbike, police have said.

Officers from North Wales Police were called to reports of a crash involving a black motorcycle on Marine Drive on the Great Orme in Llandudno, Conwy county, at about 22:31 GMT on Thursday.

A multi-agency response including police, the RNLI and HM Coastguard was launched and the man was recovered from the water and airlifted to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are looking to speak to the driver of a black vehicle - possibly a Ford Fiesta - that they believe was in the area at the time.

The incident happened about one mile (1.6km) from the Toll House towards the direction of the Great Orme summit.

The Great Orme is a headland which rises up to 207m (679 feet) above sea level and has sheer cliffs.

The man's kin have been informed and the coroner has been notified, police said.

Sgt Alun Jones said the force's thoughts were "with the man's family and friends at this very difficult time".

A force spokesperson said the black vehicle "travelled on Mostyn Street into North Parade then headed up towards the Great Orme at around 22:26".

"We are urging the driver of that vehicle to come forward as soon as possible," they said.

Police have appealed for anyone with information or video footage to contact them and they are particularly keen to hear from anyone travelling from the Toll House towards the Great Orme summit between 22:00 and 22:30 on Thursday and who may have dashcam footage.

    Where is Great Orme?

The Great Orme is a limestone headland on the north coast of Wales, rising up to 207m (679 feet) above sea level.

It features sheer cliffs that drop dramatically straight into the Irish Sea.

It is a tourist attraction, with a Victorian tramway, a cableway, walking routes and a mining museum.

Llandudno's Marine Drive, the site of the crash, is a five-mile (8km) toll road looping around the base of the Great Orme.
