India T20 Series in Belfast to Build Momentum for 2030 World Cup

Ireland is preparing to host India for a two-match T20 international series at the Stormont Cricket Ground in Belfast. According to assistant coach Gary Wilson, these fixtures serve as a significant opportunity to build anticipation for the 2030 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Ireland, Scotland, and England.
The series is scheduled for June 26 and June 28, with both matches starting at 1:30 PM local time. The event marks a return to Belfast for the Indian team, who have not played at Stormont since 2007.
India enters the series under the leadership of captain Shreyas Iyer. There is significant anticipation surrounding the potential debut of 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, whose presence has reportedly increased ticket demand across Europe.
Ireland will be led by newly appointed permanent T20I captain Lorcan Tucker. The wicketkeeper-batter takes over the role while leading a squad that is currently missing six key players due to various injuries, including Paul Stirling and Josh Little.
Cricket Ireland confirmed the matches will proceed as planned following a security review conducted with the Police Service of Northern Ireland. Authorities stated there is no specific threat to the teams, officials, or spectators following previous reports of civil unrest in the city.
Historically, the rivalry has been dominated by India, who have won all eight of their T20 encounters against Ireland since 2009, with six of those victories occurring on Irish soil.
