Akwa Ibom Commissioner Denies Link to Man Arrested With Toy Gun

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Aniekan Umana, has officially distanced himself from a man arrested by police while in possession of a toy AK-47 rifle. The suspect, identified as Wisdom Umana, was apprehended by an officer attached to the Government House.
According to a press release from the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, the suspect claimed during his arrest that he was a vigilante operative assigned to escort duties for the Commissioner for Information. DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that investigations into the suspect's activities and the possession of the imitation firearm have begun.
In response to the police report, Dr. Aniekan Umana issued a personal statement categorically denying that any vigilante personnel had been assigned to him from any source. He clarified that the only security personnel serving in his office are officers from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who were officially posted by the state command.
Dr. Umana described the suspect's claims as false and misleading in their entirety. He urged the public to disregard the allegations and called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation to establish the actual facts of the matter.
