Supporters of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State on Tuesday staged a solidarity rally at the party’s secretariat on Acme Road, Ikeja, declaring support for the state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, amid growing discontent over the outcome of the party’s legislative primaries.
The rally comes days after protests by aggrieved party members who rejected the list of House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates released by the state chapter of the APC on May 25, 2026, and signed by Ojelabi.
The protests, which have rocked the party secretariat in recent days, were staged by members from Alimosho Federal Constituency, Mushin Federal Constituency II, Agege Constituency II, as well as Ojokoro, Oshodi-Isolo, Agege, Badagry, Mushin, Amuwo-Odofin, Eti-Osa, Somolu, Ojokoro and Ajeromi, who alleged irregularities in the primary elections.
However, Tuesday’s solidarity rally drew party members from Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Amuwo-Odofin, Ojo and Badagry local government areas, who expressed confidence in the leadership of the state chairman.
Speaking during the rally, one of its leaders, Aladeotan David from Badagry West, described Ojelabi as an inclusive leader committed to fostering peace and unity within the party.
According to a statement by Ojelabi’s spokesperson, Omobola-Nowoola Akingbehin, David said the APC leadership in Lagos had consistently promoted unity, peace and internal democracy.
He added that the conduct and outcome of the party’s primary elections reflected the maturity of its leadership and commitment to democratic principles.
“Ojelabi has demonstrated exceptional leadership by ensuring a transparent and orderly process. His ability to unite members across different interests has further strengthened the APC in Lagos State,” he said.
Also speaking, Saheed Tijani from Iba Local Council Development Area commended the Governance Advisory Council, led by Tajudeen Olusi, for providing strategic direction to the party.
He described the council as a stabilising force that has contributed significantly to the growth and electoral success of the APC in Lagos State.
The speakers also praised President Bola Tinubu for what they described as his leadership and commitment to national development.
They further welcomed the emergence of Damilola Sonayon-James as the APC deputy governorship candidate, describing her selection as a recognition of competence, inclusiveness and youth participation in governance.
Responding, Ojelabi, who was accompanied by the APC Acting National Vice Chairman (South-West), Lateef Ibirogba, thanked the supporters for the show of solidarity.
He urged party members, particularly the youths, to remain committed to the ideals of the APC and continue to contribute positively to the development of Lagos State and the country.
