Tottenham Pursue Mateus Fernandes Following Rejected Bid for Sandro Tonali

Tottenham Hotspur are aggressively pursuing West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes as part of a broader effort to overhaul their midfield this summer. The move comes after Newcastle United rejected a bid of nearly £80 million from the North London club for Sandro Tonali.
Under the leadership of manager Roberto De Zerbi, Tottenham are seeking to strengthen their squad to compete at the top of the Premier League. While the club remains interested in Tonali, they have now turned their attention toward the 21-year-old Portugal international, Fernandes, who has emerged as a primary target.
West Ham United, who have recently suffered relegation, are reportedly open to selling Fernandes to the highest bidder. The Hammers have set a starting price of £85 million for the midfielder, though some reports suggest they may seek a fee exceeding €100 million given the level of interest from several elite clubs.
Tottenham have made significant progress in their pursuit and are preparing a formal offer. Reports indicate the club is willing to match West Ham's £85 million valuation to secure the player's signature. Some sources suggest Spurs could potentially go as high as €100 million to ensure they beat their rivals to the signing.
Manchester United is also competing for the midfielder's signature. While United previously valued the former Southampton player at approximately £60 million, they may be forced to increase their offer to remain competitive against Tottenham's aggressive approach.
Fernandes is viewed as one of the most coveted young midfielders in Europe, having performed well despite West Ham's struggles. The player is reportedly keen to return to the Premier League's top flight, and Tottenham has presented a clear vision for his role under De Zerbi to attract him to the club.
