Amnesty Accuses Sudan's RSF of Ethnic Cleansing in El-Fasher

Amnesty International released a report on Wednesday alleging that Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing during their operation to capture El-Fasher.
The report covers the period from 2024 to 2025, stating that the RSF's campaign to seize the city, which is the capital of North Darfur state, involved systematic attacks on civilians.
According to Amnesty, the forces deliberately targeted children as part of their offensive, adding a specific dimension to the alleged abuses.
The report also notes that the United Nations has previously described the situation in El-Fasher as bearing the hallmarks of genocide, linking the allegations to broader concerns about genocidal intent.
El-Fasher has been a focal point of fighting in Sudan's ongoing conflict, where the RSF has been engaged in battles against rival factions for control of territory and resources.
Amnesty's findings add to a growing body of documentation from various international bodies that have recorded widespread violations in Darfur during the same timeframe.
The report was published on Wednesday and contributes to the ongoing record of allegations that may be used in future accountability processes, though the document itself does not specify any immediate actions taken by authorities.
