The United Kingdom has issued a warning of protests and possible disruptions on and around June 30.
This comes following a call by March and March and other civic organisations for illegal immigrants to leave South Africa by the end of June.
According to the advisory, there are regular protests and demonstrations in South Africa that can turn violent at short notice.
"There has been an increase in xenophobic and anti-immigration marches and violence, primarily but not exclusively targeting African immigrants and those perceived to be African immigrants. Some organisations have proposed June,30, 2026, as a day of national shutdown linked to this sentiment," the advisory read.
It went on to add, "There is an increased likelihood of further protests and related incidents on or around 30 June, and travel around certain areas of South Africa may be disrupted during this period. Exact details of impacted areas are not known; you should monitor local and social media for real-time updates on the situation."
"Please be cautious and avoid areas where protests, demonstrations, or marches are taking place.
"If you encounter a protest unexpectedly, leave the area as soon as it is safe to do so. Follow the instructions of local authorities and security personnel. Monitor local and social media for updates, including local radio. Where possible, stay on main roads. Be aware that GPS navigation may direct you through less secure areas," the advisory stated.
Police response
Acting Minister of Police, Firoz Cachalia, earlier this week met with the country's stability and security ahead of the planned June 30 demonstrations.
He added that threats of violence present a considerable risk to national security, particularly in light of the devastating impact of the July 2021 unrest.
Cachalia added that they are ready for any threat.
"Our objective is straightforward. We will protect lawful and peaceful demonstrations as provided for in our Constitution. At the same time, we will act decisively against any individual or group that seeks to engage in criminal conduct," he said.
