Russian Missile and Drone Strikes Hit Kyiv Region

Russian forces launched a series of ballistic missiles and drones targeting the Kyiv region early Monday morning. The strikes hit various structures, including apartment blocks and other buildings, according to Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the city’s military administration.
Reports on the human toll of the attack vary across sources. Some accounts state that at least 11 people were killed and dozens more were injured, while other reports place the death toll at 12. A separate report attributed to the city's military administration indicated that at least three people died.
Authorities noted that this assault was the second attack on the capital and its surrounding areas in less than a week. According to officials, the waves of missiles and drones exposed increasing gaps in the air defense systems currently utilized by Ukraine.
The timing of the strikes coincided with the eve of a NATO summit taking place in Turkey. The attack occurred as Ukraine has been increasing its own strikes inside Russian territory.
Within Russia, the ongoing conflict has faced mounting criticism. Some perspectives suggest that Vladimir Putin is beginning to realize that a victory in the war against Ukraine may not be achievable.
The strikes on the Kyiv region highlight the continued volatility of the conflict as both nations engage in aerial campaigns. The impact on civilian infrastructure, specifically the hitting of residential apartment blocks, underscores the ongoing nature of the urban warfare affecting the capital.
